The programs revolve around the relationships between the employees of the answering service and their clients. There are five employees of the answering service: Pat Pritchard manager of the answering service, a man who is always busy but rarely with the operation of the service; Mark Hardwick, the office accountant, a man with figures on his mind as well as in the account books; Franny, an aspiring actress and telephone operator who is ten years too old for the parts she auditions for; Alice, your lovely neighborhood mudwrestler; and Vikki a musician with her nose in everyone else's business.
