Lary 7 is a multimedia artist, performer and engineer working with forgotten electronic instruments and discarded technologies to create moving images, photographs, absurdist performances and sonic works. Born in in 1956 in Buffalo, New York, his mentors were luminaries of the electronic and film avant-garde such as Tony Conrad, Woody Vasulka, Hollis Frampton and Paul Sharits. 7's education was equally practical and his work since has been informed by a technical mastery of photography and electrical engineering. Operating from his East Village apartment turned analog recording studio of over 40 years (Plastikville), he is a long-time denizen of New York’s experimental film and music underground, collaborating locally and abroad with artists such as Tom Verlaine, Swans, Jarboe, Gen Ken Montgomery, Felix Kubin, Jimi Tenor, Pan Sonic, Michael Evans, Direct Art Productions Ltd. with Fabio Roberti, Henry Jones, Alexander Haacke and Danielle de Picciotto, Bernard Gál, Jutta Koether, Dorit Chrysler and many more.
